NEW ORLEANS, LA. – A strong performance on the mound on Opening Day resulted in Texas State's Kyle Froehlich (Nipawin, Sask.) being named the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

The right-hander struck out eight in five innings in an 13-0 shutout victory over Niagara. It was the Bobcats' first season opening shutout since 2010.

Froehlich's strikeout total was the most by a Texas State hurler in the first game of a season since 2023 when Levi Wells had nine punch outs.

The graduate transfer allowed only two batters to reach base with those being via base hits as he limited the Purple Eagles to a .118 batting average.
