WINNIPEG, MAN. – Adam Hall drove in five runs, including a three-run home run in the eighth inning, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries 11-4 Wednesday evening at Blue Cross Park.

Sioux Falls opened the scoring in the first inning on a solo home run to centre field by Jabari Henry.

Winnipeg answered in the bottom of the second when centre fielder Noah Marcelo singled, stole second base, and scored on a right-field single by left fielder Jiandido Tromp to tie the game 1-1.

The Goldeyes moved in front in the third. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder drew a walk and second baseman Ramón Bramasco followed with a single before Hall lifted a sacrifice fly to right to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead.

The Canaries tied the game in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Michael Curialle and Anthony Hall.

Winnipeg quickly regained control in the bottom half. Right fielder Keshawn Lynch led off with a home run to left to put the Goldeyes back in front 3-2. Two batters later, designated hitter Max Murphy hit a solo home run to right to extend the lead to 4-2.

Didder led off the fifth with a home run to left for a 5-2 advantage. Hall then doubled to centre and scored on Marcelo’s single up the middle to make it 6-2.

Right-hander Landen Bourassa (Lethbridge, Alta.) worked five strong innings before Sioux Falls cut into the lead in the sixth. A bases-loaded walk to Joe Vos brought home a run to make it 6-3, and a hit batter forced in another to pull the Canaries within 6-4.

Right-hander Eli Saul (Vancouver, B.C.) came on and struck out Henry to end the inning and preserve Winnipeg’s two-run lead.

The Goldeyes added a run in the seventh when Didder and Bramasco drew walks and Hall lined a single to centre, extending the lead to 7-4.

Winnipeg broke the game open in the eighth. Murphy doubled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4. Didder and Bramasco followed with singles before Hall drove a three-run home run down the left-field line to give the Goldeyes an 11-4 advantage.

Right-hander Derrick Cherry struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to close out the victory.

Bourassa allowed two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Arij Fransen was charged with two runs in 2/3 of an inning before Saul recorded the final out of the sixth and worked a scoreless seventh. Sage Ferguson struck out two in a perfect eighth before Cherry finished with a scoreless ninth.

Chase Gearing allowed six runs on nine hits over six innings for Sioux Falls.

Hall finished 3-for-4 with a home run, double, and five runs batted in. Didder reached base four times, scored four runs and homered. Murphy went 2-for-4 with a home run and double, while Tromp added two hits and an RBI.

The series will conclude Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Cross Park. Left-hander Ryo Kohigashi will start for Winnipeg, while Sioux Falls will counter with right-hander Christian Edwards.
