Back when all us kids listened to hockey games, broadcaster Foster Hewitt would often say, “The score was not indicative of play.”

As the SBA/Marlins Scout Team 2028 beat Canadian Premier 6-1 in the round of 32 at the Perfect Game World Wood Bat championships, “the score was not indicative of play.”

SBA held onto the slimmest of leads -- 2-1 -- before scoring four unearned runs in the top of the seventh.

Canadian Premier managed only four hits -- two by William Nolet (Saint-Gilles, Que.), a solo homer by Jalen Jacob (Maple, Ont.) in the fourth and a single by Clark Heimbecker (Guelph, Ont.).

RHP Alex Wallace (Oakville, Ont.) started and pitched two innings allowing two runs -- one earned -- on two hits, while fanning a pair.

Ontario Royals RHP Evan Shewfelt (Grimsby, Ont.)

RHP Evan Shewfelt (Grimsby, Ont.) was next, working three scoreless. He allowed one hit and fanned three.

Then it was Peyton Markwood (Puslinch, Ont.) who worked 1 1/3 innings allowing three unearned runs on two hits. He struck out one.

RHP Max Covriga (Markham, Ont.) recorded the final two outs as he was touched up for one unearned run on one hit and two walks.

Jacob led off the fourth, hitting a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence.
