The Junior National Team opened their Dominican Pro Tour schedule with a 6–2 loss to the Padres Dominican Summer League squad.
William Labonte (Okotoks, Alta.) impressed in his start, striking out eight batters over 3 2/3 innings, keeping the Padres DSL off scoreboard early.
Cole Dorland (Langley, B.C.) made his Junior National Team debut. He bounced back from a shaky first inning to keep the Juniors at striking distance through the middle innings.
The Juniors’ offence came alive in the eighth when four straight players reached base. Elliot Lascelles (Toronto, Ont.) and Nolan Weinmeyer (Sidney, B.C.) came through with back-to-back RBI singles to put the Canadians on the board.
Adyn Schell (Toronto, Ont.) added a pair of strikeouts in his inning in relief.
The Junior National Team will take on the Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers DSL squads on Wednesday as they play their first doubleheader of the tour.
