Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor underwent surgery on his right wrist on Saturday.

The Mariners reported that Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) is expected to be recovered in time for spring training.

The procedure performed on Naylor is called triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) repair surgery. It was done by Dr. Jerry Huang at the University of Washington Medical Center on Saturday.

Naylor was hampered by the injury for much of the 2026 season and it contributed to a decline in his power numbers. He belted 10 home runs in 2026 compared to 20 the previous season.

In total, Naylor played in 152 games in 2026 and hit .261 with 58 runs, 23 doubles, 57 RBIs and 30 stolen bases.

Those 30 stolen bases made him the first major league first baseman to have back-to-back 30-stolen base seasons since George Sisler did it for three straight campaigns with the St. Louis Browns from 1920 to 1922.

Originally selected in the first round (12th overall) by the Florida Marlins in the 2015 MLB draft, Naylor just completed his eighth MLB season. Combining his tenures with the San Diego Padres (2019-20), Cleveland Guardians (2020-24), Arizona Diamondbacks (2025) and Mariners (2025 to present), the Ontario Blue Jays and Junior National Team grad has batted .268 with 114 home runs, 492 RBIs and 85 stolen bases.

Naylor was dealt to the Mariners by the Diamondbacks on July 24, 2025 in exchange for left-hander Brandyn Garcia and minor league right-hander Ashton Izzi.

Naylor excelled with the Mariners down the stretch in 2025 to become just the fourth first baseman in MLB history and the second Canadian to record 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases in the same season (Larry Walker (Maple Ridge, B.C.) was the first with the Colorado Rockies in 1997).

In 12 games in the 2025 postseason, Naylor batted .340, with a .966 OPS and led the Mariners with 16 hits and to within one win of a World Series berth.

He also set several Canadian postseason records, including becoming the first Canuck to have four, three-hit games in the same postseason. In Game 2 of the American League Championship Series, he belted a two-run home run to become the first Canadian to homer against the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada in the postseason.

On November 17, 2025, Naylor signed a five-year, $92.5-million contract to remain with the Mariners.
