FORT MCMURRAY, ALTA. – Ontario completed a perfect week in Fort McMurray with an 11–1 victory over Alberta in Sunday evening’s gold-medal game at Legacy Dodge Field to capture the 2026 18U National Championship.
The Mississauga Tigers HPP, representing Ontario, ended the championship in walk-off fashion when the final run pushed the lead to 10 and brought the game to an early conclusion under the tournament’s mercy rule.
The victory capped a 6–0 tournament for Ontario, which scored 56 runs and allowed just seven over six games.
Ontario entered Championship Sunday as the top seed from Pool A after victories over New Brunswick, British Columbia, host Alberta and Alberta. Waiting in the semifinal was the tournament’s only other undefeated team, Prince Edward Island.
Ontario limited P.E.I. to one run in a 4–1 victory to advance to the final, while Alberta defeated British Columbia 10–2 in the other semifinal.
That set up a rematch of Saturday’s preliminary-round meeting, which Ontario had won 4–2.
With the national title on the line, Ontario left little doubt in the second meeting, building an 11–1 advantage before the mercy-rule walk-off secured gold.
The championship moves Ontario back to the top of the 18U national podium after earning silver in 2025, while Alberta completed the tournament with a national silver medal.
British Columbia rebounds for bronze
British Columbia bounced back from its semifinal loss to finish the championship on the podium, defeating Prince Edward Island 8–5 in Sunday’s bronze-medal game.
B.C. reached Championship Sunday after going 2–2 in preliminary play, with both of its victories decided by a single run. Representing B.C., the Victoria Mariners opened the tournament with a 1–0 win over Alberta before edging the host Fort McMurray Oil Giants 7–6 in extra innings.
After falling 10–2 to Alberta in the semifinal, British Columbia responded in the bronze-medal game to secure its second consecutive national podium finish following gold in 2025.
Prince Edward Island finished fourth after one of the strongest preliminary rounds of the tournament. P.E.I. went 4–0 in Pool B, including a 13–1 victory over Manitoba to close preliminary play, before falling to Ontario in the semifinal and B.C. in the bronze-medal game.
Final Placement Games
Manitoba finished fifth after defeating New Brunswick in Sunday afternoon’s placement matchup. New Brunswick had closed preliminary play with consecutive victories, including a 5–4 extra-inning win over British Columbia and a 9–0 shutout of the host Oil Giants. Manitoba finished sixth after its championship hopes ended with a 7–6 extra-inning quarterfinal loss to Alberta on Saturday night.
Saskatchewan secured seventh place with a 10–2 victory over the host Fort McMurray Oil Giants. Saskatchewan finished the tournament with three victories, while the hosts completed the championship in eighth.
Nova Scotia closed the week with a 27–2 victory over Newfoundland and Labrador in the ninth-place matchup. Newfoundland and Labrador, which had opened the tournament with a 5–3 win over Nova Scotia, finished 10th.
