Official Ottawa Titans News Release
Ottawa, Ont. - The Ottawa Titans are thrilled to announce that hitting coach Rodrigo Orozco has accepted a MiLB hitting coach position in the Dominican Republic with the Atlanta Braves organization.
Under Orozco’s guidance, the Titans enjoyed one of the most productive offensive seasons in franchise history, recording 99 home runs, 647 runs scored, 523 walks, 155 stolen bases and a .382 on-base percentage. For the first time in franchise history, four players hit at least 10 home runs, while five stole 15 or more bases. Several veterans and former teammates emerged as major offensive threats, led by AJ Wright, who drove in a career-high 80 runs while setting a personal best with 25 doubles and matching his career high with 14 home runs. Taylor Wright (North Vancouver, B.C.) also enjoyed a career year, belting a personal-best 18 home runs, driving in 71 runs and setting a new franchise single-season record with 38 stolen bases. Jackie Urbaez added another career-high with 12 home runs while swiping 19 bases.
The former Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres farmhand transitioned into coaching with a wealth of experience, having competed across multiple levels of professional baseball. Over 718 career games, Orozco posted a .279 batting average, establishing himself as a consistent offensive performer throughout his decade-long playing career.
A native of Panama, Orozco signed with the Blue Jays in 2012 and advanced to the organization's High-A affiliate, Dunedin, between 2013 and 2018.
During his time with the Blue Jays organization, he spent parts of two seasons with the Vancouver Canadians. Orozco earned a spot on the Blue Jays' Organizational All-Star Team in 2018 after hitting a career-best .304 that year. Following that season, he was traded to the San Diego Padres and went on to reach the triple-A level.
Orozco's playing career concluded in the Frontier League (now National Association of Professional Baseball), where he became a familiar face to Ottawa baseball fans. In 2022, he brought veteran leadership and steady production to the Titans' lineup, batting .288 with a career-high 14 doubles, seven home runs and 41 RBIs over 87 games. He also made history as the first player signed by manager Bobby Brown ahead of the franchise's inaugural season and hit the first playoff home run in team history.
He spent the final two seasons of his playing career with the Trois-Rivières Aigles, earning a Frontier League All-Star selection in 2023.
The Ottawa Titans will open the 2027 National Association season on Friday, May 7, at 7:00 p.m., hosting the Trois-Rivières Aigles at Ottawa Stadium.
