Each year at the Canadian Futures Showcase, we try to highlight a few players by asking them the same questions. The answers reveal as much about the players as arm strength or exit velocity.

We know we’re a tad late after being under the weather, but late is better than not at all.

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“I played hockey and basketball for a while, but had a way bigger passion for baseball and was a lot better at it.”

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“The scouting report on me as a pitcher would probably tell you to be on time for the fastball.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“I would say that the game is 70% mental and 30% physical.”

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“I’ve had a lot of great teammates over the years. One of my favourites was probably Dom Morgan (Sherwood Park, Alta.), he’s a great player and leader.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... besides Rogers Centre?

“My favourite place to play in is at LakePoint outside Atlanta. The turf is beautiful and the weather is always perfect.”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of your bonus?

“The first thing I would buy with my signing bonus is probably multiple pairs of shoes. I always want a new pair of shoes so it would feel awesome to finally get them with the signing bonus.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“I think I want to get a business degree or something to do with sports management. I want to stay around the game of baseball even when I’m not playing.”

Most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“Most influential people in my baseball life are my grandmas and grandpas: Lynn and Ron, Sandra and Randy. They always supported me and always had belief in me.”

What four people (living or passed away) would you invite to a mythical diner and why?

“The four people I would invite to a dinner would have to be Drake, Lebron James, Bo Bichette and Shane Gillis. I feel like they’re all cool people and it would be interesting to talk to all of them together.”

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“I chose baseball over hockey. I love the thinking part of the game. The process of the hard work involved at the higher level is really interesting.

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“That I have the ability to throw strikes and thrives under pressure. That I project as a starter.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“I would say 50/50 and I think I am 60% physical, 40% mental.”

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“Isaac Ublanski (Ingersoll, Ont.). We pushed each other in the off season.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... besides Rogers Centre?

Baylor Ballpark. Had my best day there ... so far. A beautiful park.”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of the signing bonus?

“A nice truck.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“Exercise Science or Kinesiology. Would like to use this to work in baseball after I’m done playing.”

Most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“My Dad (Bob). He guided me through all decisions on team choices and training.”

What four people (living or passed away) would you invite to a mythical diner and why?

“Austin Shultz, Eric Sim, David Goggins, Trevor Bauer. We’d laugh a lot.”

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“Because I have the most fun doing it and I loved the sport and the competition.”

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“Very aggressive and versatile.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“I would say 30% physical and 70% mental.”

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“I’d probably have to say Jordan Rittenburg (Halifax, NS), Dan Poirier (Dartmouth, NS) and AJ Rogers (Dartmouth, NS) because we were the closest.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... besides Rogers Centre?

“Vauxhall Jets Stadium.”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of the signing bonus?

“Get something for my family.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“I’m not sure yet, something in the sports field.”

Most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“My mom (Jessica St-Georges) because she’s always pushed me further than I thought I could go, supported me and believed in me.”

What four people (living or passed away) would you invite to a mythical diner and why?

“Lebron James, my grandfather (Lorne McMullen), Bryce Harper and my little brother, (Logan).”

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“I have always had more of a passion for baseball because of the love I have always had in me since a little kid. Other sports are nice but they do not feel the same.”

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“I would want it to say that he keeps his composure on the mound at all times.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“I would say 30% physical, 70% mental.”

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“My favourite teammate over the years has been Kaden Coldwell (Blumenort, Man.), because he has, and is a great example to me on and off the field.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... beside Rogers Centre?

“Jets Stadium in Vauxhall, Alberta. It just feels like home.”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of your bonus?

“The first thing I would like to buy would be some land out in the woods where I could build a nice house.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“I would like to obtain a Business Degree because it will apply well to so many things in life.”

Most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“My dad (Lyndon Thiessen) and my mother (Lisa Thiessen) are the most influential people in my life as they have taught me lots of valuable life lessons in and out of baseball.”

What four people (living or passed away) would you invite to a mythical diner and why?

“Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Alexander the Great, and Genghis Khan. I would be curious to see what they discuss over a meal.”
