After being activated from the 15-day injured list on Monday, Michael Soroka started and tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings for the Arizona Diamondbacks in their 9-0 win over the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field.

Soroka (Calgary, Alta.) allowed three hits and struck out four in his first start since being sidelined with a glute strain on June 20. He threw 47 of his 77 pitches for strikes.

The Canuck pitcher told reporters he felt “good” after the game.

“I think there were a couple of pitches that got away here and there . . . But you can’t really nitpick too much when you have zeroes on the board, that’s the name of the game,” said Soroka. “And Gabby (catcher Gabriel Moreno) did a great job of kind of going with what was working tonight.”

Soroka’s performance lowered his ERA to 2.92 this season. He is 8-3 and has fanned 83 batters in 86 1/3 innings.

The win was the second in a row for the D-Backs and it helped them maintain their hold on the second Wild Card spot in the National League.

On June 19, Soroka was removed from his start against the Minnesota Twins after he experienced discomfort while warming up in the second inning.

It was a tough blow for the Canadian righty who seemed to have rediscovered the form that made him the runner-up for the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2019.

The 28-year-old Calgary Redbirds and Junior National Team grad is in his seventh major league campaign. In 107 career MLB games, he owns a 28-29 record with a 3.69 ERA and has 462 strikeouts in 502 innings.

Soroka also made two starts for Canada in the World Baseball Classic in March.

With Soroka’s return, the D-Backs have two Canadians in their starting rotation. Left-hander Mitch Bratt (Newmarket, Ont.) threw seven scoreless innings for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
