HAMILTON – Welland is one win from a Dominico Cup title.

The Jackfish’s 7-5 victory in Hamilton on Sunday gave the defending champions a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game 4 is in Welland on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.

Down 5-4 after six innings – its first time trailing in the series – Welland scored three runs in the top of the seventh to pull ahead for good.

Daiki Abe, who had an RBI single in the second inning, tripled home a pair of runs in the seventh. Jonah Weisner’s RBI single in the seventh was his third hit of the game.

Gianfranco Morello went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice, James Smibert doubled home a run to open the scoring, and Justin Gideon added a sacrifice fly.

Pedro De Los Santos struck out three in 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. He entered the game with one out in the sixth after Abdiel Saldana allowed five runs on 10 hits with a walk and three punchouts.

Deivy Mendez struck out one in the ninth for his second playoff save.

For Hamilton, Angel Guerrero went 4-for-4 with three RBI singles. Trevor Nicoll went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Evan Magill drove in a run.

Owen Boon was saddled with the loss after yielding six runs (five earned) on seven hits over six innings. He fanned four without walking a batter.
