Outfielder Jordan Nwogu (Ottawa, Ont.) closed out his season with the triple-A Iowa Cubs in style.
In four games this past week, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound outfielder went 5-for-12 (.417 batting average) with two doubles and two stolen bases.
For his efforts, he has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s Minor League Player of the Week (September 15 to September 20).
After registering an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the Cubs’ 3-2 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Thursday, Nwogu had a single in three at bats in the first game of a doubleheader the following day. He fared even better in the second half of the doubleheader when he went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, an RBI and a stolen in the Cubs’ 10-2 win.
However, he would save his best for last - going 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in the Cubs’ 14-3 loss to the Storm Chasers on Sunday.
The 27-year-old outfielder’s hot hitting boosted his batting average to .284 in 32 games in triple-A. He also had three home runs and 20 RBIs.
A Michigan Wolverines alum, Nwogu was selected in the third round (88th overall) of the 2020 MLB draft by the Cubs.
