Bush Jr. returns to T12 and the stadium his father starred in

When one hears the family name “Bush,” the subject is often related to the bloodline of American Presidents from Texas. In Canadian baseball circles, there is another Bush family from Texas making headway. Homer Bush Jr., for the second consecutive year, is showcasing his explosive, all-around game at the annual Blue Jays Tournament 12 Showcase at Rogers Centre. The same amphitheatre that his Father, Homer Bush Sr., graced with his baseball talent for parts of four seasons, from 1999 to 2002, as a second baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Calabrese's speed on display again in Team Maroon's loss to Team Green

There’s fast, and then there’s too fast. Ontario Blue Jays OF David Calabrese, a native of Maple, Ont., was the fastest player in Tuesday’s 60-yard dash at T12 Scout Day, registering a time of 6.43 seconds, and put that on display in his first game of the Tournament as his Maroon squad took on Team Green. After appearing to register a two-run hit in the fourth, the 16-year-old’s quickness got the better of him as he failed to touch first base. He still, however, finished 2-for-3 in the game and was named Player of the Game in his team’s 8-3 loss.

Fun, new relationships, a potential future — these are the things offered to young hopefuls like Great Lake Canadians OF Riley Silva at the Toronto Blue Jays’ Tournament 12 this week. Silva, a 17-year-old outfielder hailing from Cambridge, Ont., will be making his second appearance at the tournament, which is comprised of the best 150 amateur baseball players in the country (who have college eligibility).
