Good genes: “My Mom, Nelly, and my dad, Ben. Neither played any college athletics but my mom was big in basketball and my dad played cricket in England.

The most influential people in my baseball life: “Dan Wrench, my coach for 12 years, had the most influence. When I was younger I loved the sport but was terrible at it and he always had something positive to say to me to keep me going. The words I live by are the words he told me when I was choosing whether to quit hockey or baseball. ‘Whether you believe you can or cannot you are absolutely right.’ He’s the reason I stuck with baseball and why I work so hard at it.”

The most influential person in my baseball career, besides my family: “In terms of influence on my career it has to be the staff at the Terriers. Specifically Ben Abrams and my head coaches Willins and Pollard. When I was hurt they saw my potential and they trusted me and gave me a chance to return from injury. And Ben knows so much about baseball and pitching. It is so easy to learn from him. His support and knowledge made me the pitcher I am. He saw the talent that I had and helped me refine it physically and mentally. And he’s so easy to talk to as he’s gone through the recruiting process and the draft process and college ball already and knows how it feels good and bad.”

Best day on the ball field: “Pitching at the Rogers Centre during the Canadian future Showcase is by far the best day. Anytime you get to pitch on a major league field is amazing. And having that happen at the Roger Centre while I’m in high school still makes me happy today. Especially since I pitched well (three scoreless, one hit, two strikeouts) and had a great time in general.”

Favourite player when you discovered baseball: “I loved Marcus Stroman, who was pitching well for the Blue Jays is a great start but his message of Height Doesn’t Measure Heart was so awesome to a younger me. “

Favourite player today: “Bryan Woo is my favorite for sure. I rebuilt my mechanics to be like his when I was coming back from injury. I love his smooth delivery and the heavy fastball. Everything about him is clean. And I loved his video with Slab Lab and the video on him by Foolish Baseball.”
