COLBY, Kan. – Having key roles in wins for Cloud County and Seward County on the baseball diamond last week, Thunderbird player Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) and Saint pitcher Michael Lujan have each earned their first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West Division Baseball Player of the Week honours in 2026.

Simon Baker – Cloud County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Player of the Week)

Cloud County redshirt freshman Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) hit .467 with a .600 on-base percentage across four games last week, including a three-game road sweep of No. 7 Weatherford College in Weatherford, Texas. Baker, the designated hitter, ended the week with seven hits and seven RBIs, with four of his seven hits going for extra bases. Cloud County is now 9-1 this season and ranked No. 7 in the latest NJCAA D1 Baseball poll after starting the season receiving votes in the preseason poll.

Michael Lujan – Seward County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week)

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Michael Lujan helped Seward County to a 9-0 win in game three of a four-game series with Vernon College with a strong start on the mound. Lujan tossed six scoreless innings, picking up the win for the Saints after striking out nine and scattering five hits and one walk throughout his start.
