Keenan Parker powers Langley Blaze to Perfect Game Canadian Championship Tour win

Thames Centre, Ont. _ With a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth, the Brewers Langley Blaze’s Keenan Parker stepped in and blasted a grand slam to shut the door on the host Great Lake Canadians in an eventual 8-3 win.
The win was a big one.
The two teams were facing off in the inaugural Perfect Game Canadian Championship Tour. Think of it as a Toronto Blue Jays Futures Showcase, except most players were playing for their own travel teams.
Needless to say, the intensity was through the roof. As the drive by Parker (St. Albert, Atla.) soared in a close 4-3 game, roars erupted from the Blaze dugout.
“It was a ‘take until a strike’ spot and I got three balls in a row. I knew I couldn’t miss the pitch that I got,” the tournament MVP Parker said. “The pitcher was trying to blow it by me and I wanted to get it over the fence. I knew right off the bat that it was over, it was pretty exciting for the whole team.”
Johnson County Community College commit Logan Booth (Agassiz, BC) also had an outstanding game for the Blaze, smacking two doubles for three RBIs. Owen Mayencourt (Langley, BC) collected the game-tying RBI to start the sixth inning scoring on a walk.

Both teams’ starting pitchers deserve credit for solid outings.
For the Blaze, Vernon College commit Evan Dugdale (Maple Ridge, BC) tossed 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball. The Canadians left-hander Richard Shaw (Windsor, Ont.) went 3 1/3 innings, only allowing two runs.

The game was 2-0 in favour of the Blaze through four innings. While the Canadians fought back to take a 3-2 lead entering the bottom of the sixth, six of the Blaze’s runs followed, including the statement grand slam.
Blaze right-hander Haruto Kishimoto (Langley, BC) picked up the win with 1 1/3 scoreless.
“Coach told us to play our game. No chirps, no anything like that. Just show them how we play,” said Parker, when asked what the team’s game plan was.
Of the three runs the Canadians scored in the game, Tyson Borghese (Guelph, Ont.) had two RBIs and New Mexico Junior College commit Vaughn Maginn (Brights Grove, Ont.) had one.
Canadians hurler Michael Ham (Aylmer, Ont.) won the “MVPitcher” Award, for a near-perfect game earlier in the tournament.

How they got here … The semi-final round saw two solid teams bounced from the competition.
The Blaze played a 4-1 (through round-robin play) Ontario Blue Jays squad that put together an early 4-2 lead over them. A late rally that included three runs scored off of the flamethrower Ben Goodacre (Ancaster, Ont.).
As for the Canadians, they beat the Fieldhouse Pirates 7-3. Between pitchers Caleb Dupuis (Georgetown, Ont.) and Alexander Papadopoulous (Oakville, Ont.), the Pirates only allowed one earned run. Three errors cost them the other six runs in the loss.

Fieldhouse Pirates take home the 16U trophy ... Even though their 18U team was bounced in the semi-finals, the Pirates 16U group won its division.
Their final game saw a 9-5 slugfest against the Ontario Blue Jays 16U’s. Infielder Hunter Bartha (Beamsville, Ont.) took home MVP honours as he hit to the tune of a .450 batting average and 1.050 OPS over the weekend. Two of his hits came in the final, as he collected three RBIs.

“Winning this, it’s an amazing feeling with the competitors we faced, because they’re also an amazing club,” said Bartha, “The whole tournament, I just tried to stay backside on the ball. (Our coaches told us before the game) ‘sharks don’t stop moving.’”
Bartha’s teammate, Evan Wallace (Oakville, Ont.), took home the “MVPitcher” honours for his no-hitter he threw on Saturday against the Mississauga Tigers HPP team.
