A Canadian in the Blue Jays system is heading to the sidelines.

Owen Gregg (Oakville, Ont.) has been placed on the 7-day injured list, retroactive to June 20. He last suited up for the single-A Dunedin Blue Jays on June 19.

Signed by the Jays as an amateur free agent in the summer of 2024, Gregg missed all of the 2025 season due to injury. The infielder rehabbed at the Player Development Complex in Dunedin, where he was able to work under the guise of the Jays' medical staff to get back to 100% health.

Gregg started the 2026 season in the Florida Complex League, making his professional debut against the Philadelphia Phillies FCL squad on May 2. He would collect his first pro-hit that day, a single to centre field, while going 3-for-4 with a stolen base. The Ontario product would play two games for the FCL squad before getting the call up to Dunedin, suiting up in the Jays game on May 5 as a substitute off the bench.

The middle infielder would spend just over a week with the squad before being moved back to the FCL, where he could continue to get regular reps on the field. His first tenure with Dunedin saw him go 4-for-12 (.333 batting average), all singles, while striking out six times compared to zero walks.

Back in the FCL, Gregg continued to put forward strong numbers at the plate, collecting hits in five of the seven games where he recorded an at-bat to finish off May, while also contributing with seven RBIs and three walks. This included his first extra-base hit, a triple against the FCL Yankees on May 16 that saw him score four runs.

Gregg would continue his strong presence in the FCL as the calendar flipped to June, riding a six-game hit streak since June 4 that saw him produce three multi-hit games. The right-handed bat impressed with a 4-for-5 showing against the FCL Phillies, where he produced his first professional home run. Gregg pounced on a 1-0 pitch to send the offering over the left field wall to score three runs.

The strong showing in the FCL saw Gregg get promoted to Dunedin again on June 12, with the Jays tinkering with the infielder at first base for the first time in his pro career. He suited up in two games before landing on the IL, collecting two hits across nine at-bats.

On the season, Gregg owns a collective .388/.438/.507 slash line with a .945 OPS through 67 at-bats. He’s also added five extra-base hits, 11 RBIs, four stolen bases and four walks compared to 17 strikeouts. Most of that damage came from his time in the FCL, but he still owns a strong .286 average through seven games with the Blue Jays in Dunedin.
