Elliott: Canada hopes for WBC pop from Matt Davidson

“Matt Davidson has hit 385 home runs in his first 17 pro seasons.

That’s a barrel full, a career for a lower case sultan of swat. So, you would think it might be difficult for the newest mystery member of Canada’s World Baseball Classic team to pick his favourite long ball?

“Most memorable?” repeated Davidson, the former Chicago White Sox bopper said from Peoria, Ariz. “Probably in 2018 ... opening day, I hit three in the same day, the third one was pretty special.”

Antonacci: Baba’s Canadian ball hall honour “means the world” to his children

“It seems everyone involved in Canadian baseball has a Jim Baba story.

Stubby Clapp’s favourite harkens back to the day the future Pan Am Games hero fell short in his first attempt to the make the men’s national team.

“I was the last one cut off the team, and Babs was the one who gave me the news,” Clapp recalled during a Feb. 5 press conference announcing him and Baba as 2026 Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inductees.

“First and foremost, I was just hoping I didn’t bounce it,” White said with a smile during a press conference on Feb. 5 unveiling the Jamaican-born Gold Glover as a 2026 Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inductee. “

McFarland: Ireland hopes to continue climb through Rangers’ organization after breakout 2025 campaign

“It’s still a little surreal for Thomas Ireland to see his “Homegrown Hero” banner up at the North Regina Little League ballpark.

Back home for the offseason after a very successful year in the Texas Rangers system, the 23-year-old was visiting his old stomping grounds with his wife, Jessica, and his parents to help with the program’s fall clean-up when he looked up at the banner again.

What makes it even more special in Ireland’s eyes is, just to the right of his banner, is the one for his idol, mentor, and fellow Regina native Dustin Molleken.

He couldn’t ask for more as he blazes his own professional trail.

“I have nothing but great things to say about Dusty and his family, and the amount of support he’s given me over the last couple of years,” Ireland told Saskatchewan Dugout Stories.”
